Shane

The most interesting thing about Shane is the way that he embodies the American spirit of the time. Throughout the story we see that he is trying to get away from his past, filled with hardships, and to make a better life for himself and his "adopted" family. These ideas, to escape the past and make a better life for himself and his family, are reflected by the millions of new immigrants that moved to the United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
